Possible arsenic poisoning

A friend was trying to melting down some pyrite that had quartz with crystalline gold or something in it. They were wanting to see if there was any gold contained in it. We were told that this inadvertently released arsenic vapors into the small room they were in. Have you heard of this? They are very sick. The symptoms come and go, usually being worse in the evenings. They have experienced symptoms from passing blood in their urine and stools. Coughing up blood. It is affecting their speech and their vision.
I need to know if I should drag them into being treated. Or if we are way off in what is happening to our friend.
