Hi. I am hoping someone out there can make me feel better. I stupidly sprinkled some pool grade DE inside my back door because I had heard DE would kill ants. It was maybe half a cup at the most. I left it there for a week or so, then I vacuumed it with a non hepa vacuum. It got dusty in the house, so I quit. I emptyed the vacuum bag and put a new one in. Then I took the vac outside and let it run for about an hour. Several days later, my son vacuumed his room with the vac. Several days after that, I vacuumed my room with the vac. It smelled funny. I started researching crystalline silica and have been in a panic ever since. I have mopped and wiped everything in the house down with a wet rag. My question is, have I ruined my family's and my health. Is this a horrible exposure. I am concerned it may still be in the house --ulpolstery and rugs. I am freaking out and can't quit cleaning. Am I doing any good with the cleaning. Please reply if you have any advice. Thanks.

  • I doubt it very seriously, with a such small amount. I do not beleive that was enough dispersed into the air to inhale enough to cause any heath issues. I service pools with numberous D.E. filters and need to wear a respirator. I deal with bags and bags of it a day though. No Needs to worry on only half a cup ;-)
