I was just informed that I have Asbestosis from a CT scan. I find this strange because I have never worked full time at a place where I could have long term exposure. Some summer jobs when I was going to school had me on ships or at refineries, but that's really it and only for a few months at a time.
The doctor delivered this fate accompli and there was nothing I can do to delay or minimize the effects, only option is to continue to get CT's annually to see it progress and/or go malignant.
If this is the case so be it, but is there any chance that the radiologist could misread the scarring? Could something else, maybe silicone based cause similar scaring? It seems more likely to me that I sucked in a contact or plastic wrapper floating in a pool while swimming.
Who can I talk to that would be knowledgeable about this? I guess I want this confirmed because I don't fit the profile of someone getting this from my web research.
Any help is appreciated.
