 Frustrated with this pain. It happens when I unexpectingly move it a certain way, stretch it, or twist it when I reach for something. The pain is very hurtfull that I could scream. I have to rub it to get the pain to go away. It's like I'm pulling a muscle or tendent or something. All I know it hurts like the dickens. I'm waiting to get an ultra sound which takes forever, cause the ex-ray showed nothing. Has anyone else had this problem and if so can you give me any details on the matter and what can be done. In pain: Jean (jmg056)

  • Cortisone injections are terrific and usually they work. It is suggested that you avoid too many though as cortisone tends to turn your joints into jelly after a while. It sounds to me like you have a build up of calcium in your joint, some time referred to as a 'calcium deposit'. These deposit can float freely around your joint and can also commonly be attached to certain parts of your joint. Th pain can be localized in one general area or shoot down your arm in any direction. The rotation of your arm may also cause pain. Some treatments include: cortisone treatments by injection and physiotherapy or surgery and physiotherapy.Surgery has a good success rate with only about a 25% loss in strength. Doctors will first send you to xray, where they will look for the calcium. Usually it will show up at this time. Surgeons later in the process, sometimes request an MRI prior to surgery as well. The rest of us ignore the pain and endure it until we can no longer function and then get the surgery. It is a long process and alot of appointments to get to. Recover for myself was horrible. Not able to lift more than a tea cup for 3 weeks. Good Luck.

  • I have had a pain, or ache in my right shoulder, and upper right chest area for 3 months now.If I lay on my back, in bed with my head on a pillow, I can feel this pain through to my upper right back area. Otherwise, it is always there. I haven't taken anything for it for the most part. It bothers me most when I lift my arm up sideways, or reach forward for something. Has anyone had this type of pain?

  • I have experienced similar pain as you do while working as a waitress. A friend gave me some Japanese herbs (Kanpo or Kampo?) and soon I forgot the pain at all.

  • I have the same thing for 7 weeks now. Had an xray and a special test as the Doctor thought that perhaps I might have a blod clot in my arm. Both came up negative. I then went to two separate specialists. (Orthpaedic/Sports) Medicine Doctors.(Look them up in your local Yellow Pages). They both told me it is a common problem and it told me I had inflammation of a Tendon in the arm. There are only three solutions for this:1- Learn to live with the pain (impossible)2- Have surgery done on it (costly, and will lead to other complications and may not resolve the problem)3-Cortisone injection at the site of pain.I did what they both suggested and it is better. I've actually cried myself to sleep, as the pain is so strong. I didn't do anything to bring it on, but if you type a lot at the pc, do Arts and Crafts or something where the arm is used constantly in the same fashion, it will aggravate the condition. So, I advise you go to an Orthpaedic/Sports Medicine Doctor A.S.A.P. AND STAY OFF THE COMPUTER ! Good luck and I wish you a pain-free life! Elena
