OK here's my story: I have two pre-existing conditions, Rheumatoid Arthritis & Multiple Sclerosis. Neither one is too bad, both well controlled with medications - I'm very lucky in that regard.
About a month ago I got a bad bout of diarrhea - lasted about 3 days with severe abdominal pain and fever. As I live in the Caribbean "tummy bugs" come with the territory and I've had them before and shaken them off, so I wasn't worried. Well, the diarrhea subsided but the fever and abdominal pain continued along with severe joint pains and headache. So I went to the doc to be checked out. Blood work / urinalysis / stool samples. I was dx'd with a Strep infection. Put on 10 days of Cipro. No luck. Fever, stomach pain continued. Back to the doc for another round of blood work / stool sample. Turns out that I had an amoeba that they missed the first time. Treated for that - no more abdominal pain, but the fever (ranging from 99 to 100.6) persisted. So once again a round of blood work. Dx this time was Salmonellosis. Now I'm on 14 days of Fosfocil capsules (1 every 6 hours around the clock). I have three days left on the antibiotics and STILL running the fevers - although mostly low grade (99.1 - 99.3).
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the fevers continue? Could it be the salmonella is triggering off my RA / MS? Any ideas as to what other avenues I should be following in terms of testing?
I am going back to the doc (again) on Monday once the Fosfocil is done and IF I'm still getting fevers. I'm going to ask to be checked for Typhoid Fever which I've read is linked with the Salmonella bacteria and is (sadly) common in this part of the world.
Thanks for any input!
