I had a gastric band for about 12 years with no problems. I lost 75 pounds and held that weight varying 5 pounds for over 10 years. All of a sudden my esophagus became swollen 75% shut. I could not keep water down. The saline was removed from my band and immediately the swelling went down (back to normal). That has been two years ago and I have gained 75 pounds back. The banding Dr is going to refill my band and I am scared. What caused the swelling of the esophagus in the first place. The Dr putting the fluid back in does not know the answer and is not concerned. I am. Why was it good for 10 years plus and all of a sudden terrible? What should I do. I did have a esophagus "thing" checked out with a scope and he said everything was normal. That was while it was swollen shut 75% and he said nothing was wrong. My family practitioner was the one who finally said he thought it had to be the band and sent me to have the fluid removed. Immediately the esophagus went back to normal. I can't help but think it was the band.
I am worried as the fluid is going back in next week. Please advise
