Bad health after Mono?

I had Mono when I was 18. I was very healthy and active. With mono I also had the typical strep throat that usually accompanies it. But in addition I had a really bad bladder infection.

I got over the Mono, but I started getting sick about every two weeks. I had anemia, too. This last for at least three years. I noticed I never felt healthy. I was always tired. Soon I started gaining weight, and gaining ...even when I execised and dieted. Nothing would take the weight off.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and Hypothyroid. Neither one of these run in my family. Not one person in my family has it...so how is it possible I mysteriously got it?

I'm curious if the mono/strep/bladder infection combo could cause some serious after-effects resulting in my getting PCOS and Hypothyroid.

Has anyone else noticed their health get worse after having mono?

  • I now have Hashimoto's Thryoiditis and Fibromyalgia. I had a severe case of mono a number of years ago. Almost 80% of hypothyroid / fibromyalgia patients had mono at one point prior to developing thyroid problems.Medical community suspects a link between this and Epstein-Barr.Try Dr. Lowe's site...
