Please help. For the last couple of months I have been having a weird feeling in the mid left thigh. It goes numb like it is asleep, bad pins and needles feeling, and burns like Bengay has been rubbed on it. No discolor and no bumps or rashes. It is at no certain times, can happen while walking, standing or sitting. I do often wake up at night with severe lower back pain. Any ideas or suggestions? I dont have health insurance so alot of testing is not an option unless I have a good idea of what could be going on.

  • It could be a condition known as meralgia paresthetica, which affects a patch of skin on the mid thigh. It is a self limiting condition in most cases. It may or may not have anything to do with your lower back pain. It could be some femoral nerve entrapment or compression in the groin crease area. Good luck.
