i'm a 23yr old right handed female. Three months ago i went to bed fine and woke up with the left side of my body numb(like it was asleep). I got up and stumbled around and waited two days before going to the ER and was told nothing. Went to a neuro and had an abnormal neuro exam and had MRI of the Tspine without contrast/C spine without contrast and brain with and without contrast. Spine MRIs came up fine and brain showed a larg lesion on the right side in where the corpus colosum is measuring about 3.1x3.5 and no other lesions were present. Seeing this my doc diagnosed me with a brain tumor and put me on 6mg of dexamethasone a day to control supposed swelling. Well i was taken back up to boston to a good hospital to get another opinion and has many tests done (spinal tap- No ogliconal or however u spell it bands were not present/tested for HIV Lyme disease and TB all negative) Two weeks later had a brain biopsy done showing demyelinating disease(mind u i was still on the 6 mg of dexamethasone) I was told it was a demyelinating disease most consistant with MS and it could be lymphoma but a small chance(but lymphoma cells are sensitive to steroids so it may have messed up the biopsy...then again is lymphoma demyelination?). I came back home 5 weeks later and was still on 6mg of dexa until i was put on high dose IV steroids for five days to controll this attack of supposed MS. Another scan of the brain was done and showed the edema surrounding the lesion got bigger and i was told by another doc with MS the lesion or whatever around it should shrink after the IV steroids. I had the MRI done about a month after that steroid treatment. There concern is a tumor but wouldnt the biopsy have shown that if it wasnt lymphoma? and if it was lymphoma wouldnt the lesion have still shrunk cuz lymphoma cells are sensitive to steroids?? My dilemma here is NOBODY can make up there dang mind and its nerve racking...i have been through more in the past three months emotionally than people go thru in a life time and i just want some answers. My symptoms are left sided numbness/heaviness/stiffness from the shoulder down. My left eye has pressure behind it at times but other than that my vision is fine. No headaches. My hands are shaky but werent when this first came up three months ago(a lingering side effect of steroids?).Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
