  • Hi. When you post lab results, it is always a good idea to preface the post with a little background about your symptoms, when the test was ordered, why it was ordered, and any other follow uo information you might have. A lab report in a vacuum has very little clinical significance. In the case of the results that you posted, the fact that on gross appearance the csf was reddish indicates this was a traumatic tap. Often times, an LP is collected across 4 vials allowing for some correction of a traumatic tap, where blood is introduced into the CSF during the collection, thus skewing the results. This is not the case in your results. You also have not reported a value for RBC, which could give an idea of a correction factor. In any case, the protein that you interpret as high at 100 is likely artificially elevated by the frankl blood that contaminated the collection. You can have a modest protein bump in a postinfectious state too, and no longer have viral meningitis.Hope this helps

  • I'm not clear why you are talking about interpreting your own CSF results. If you have serious symptoms that are concerning to you, then you should make an appointment with your primary care physician and discuss those concerns. If your condition becomes unstable and you fear for your safety, then obviously you would make the decision to visit an acute care facility. I can't advocate over a computer going in and demanding tests from a physician. I also understand that this response is coming some time after your initial email. If your symptoms have not resolved, I would really recommend making an appointment to see your PMD.
