The "episodes" happen without warning. They last from 5-10 seconds. They start with a tingling (pins and needles) sensation at the base of my skull and swirls throughout my head (no other extremities). I become very light headed to the point of almost passing out. I get extreme vertigo after the episode, numbness in my face, nausea and sensitivity to light. The nausea and the light sensitivity goes away with 3-5 hours. The vertigo subsides a little, but does not go away completely. I have had 3 episodes in the last eight weeks and have had constant vertigo since the onset. I do not have headaches. I started with my primary physician who diagnosed me with BPPV. I was then referred to an ENT when I showed no improvement. ENT performed some audiology testing and determined that my balance problems were central because of my downward (vertical) eye movement in my right and left eye during the testing. Hearing and innner ear were both normal. The ENT then referred me to a neuologist. To speed up the process my ENT scheduled an MRI with and without contrast. I experience my last episode on Friday the 23rd while taking a shower. During this episode the tingling started and stayed on the left side of my head. I was so freaked out that my husband drove me to the ER. They took blood, chest x rays and ekg. All test were normal. They were also able to obtain the results of the MRI which was also negative for tumors and leisons. I believe my symptoms may be related to Basilar Migraines or Vertebral Basilar Insufficiency. My father passed away at 63 and had his first (and only TIA) at 42. I am a 46 year old female in good health. I am of normal weight, exercise on a regular basis and try to eat clean. I do take blood pressure medication and have a total cholesterol reading of more than 200 for as long as I can remember. My LDL, HDL and TRY are all in normal range. I am scared and want answers. I am wondering if there is something I am not considering. Please HELP! Thank you for listening!
