six months ago, I was in a head on collision. They had to get me out by the jaws of life. I had 7 broken ribs, a collapesed lung, 2 bulging dics, torn ligament and pinched nerve in my neck and a broken hand that they didn't catch while I was in the hospital for a week. I also, had a hole bore in my arm that you could have stuck your thumb into (gross, I know:() filled with glass , that they had to sew up. When they inserted the chest tube, I thought I was going to die!! I swear if they hadn't reached the end of my lung they would have gone on up through my throat!! It felt like they ripped my insides to pieces To this day, I still hurt where it hit two specfic places inside and under my breast hurts.....not to mention it hurts to wear a bra. My neck and upper back and shoulders hurt, and I have shooting pains down my arm to my fingers. My pinky and ring finger look deformed as do my wrist. I'm going to a specialist thathas never seen me net wednesday and they haven't even examined me, but want to do an epurdural (SP) I guess my # of questions are as follows 1) do the nerves ever fix themselves? 2)do bulging dics resolve themselves? 3) will the pain in my nek shoulder, back and arm hand and fingers ever go away?? Thanks:)

  • HI Juzwonderin,I know how painful nerve damage can be. I have a large herniated disk in my upper cervical spine & am going to see a neurosurgen next month. What my neurologist told me was that nerve damage can become permanent if not treated. She said that alot of times they will try physical therapy & special excersises at home and if that does not work they will do surgery. I am taking Lyrica now for the pain in my arms, shoulder and neck and using ice packs every other hour or so for 30 min. Seems to help some. You definetly dont want to mess around when it concerns your neck. Talk to your doctor and insist that something be done! Good luck and best wishes.

  • People most likely are reading and not responding to your post because you aren't asking relevant and rational questions. Everyone is an individual. Every injury is different. No one can tell you whether or not you'll feel better... not even a doctor in many cases. They can give you their best medical opinion, but they don't have a crystal ball and can't predict the future for you. The people on this post don't have access to your medical history and MRI's, etc. If you want support with your problems, seek out the appropriate medical and psychological care - don't expect strangers to read your story and feel compelled to pat you on the back and tell you you'll be all better soon. You probably won't. But if you seek out the care of specialists consistent with your current problems, you will likely get a lot better.PS - You should be asking the doctor doing your epidurals if a bulge or protrusion can be fixed. The purpose of an epidural is to essentially shrink the bulge and inflammation around the damaged disc. If the doctor knows what he's doing, you will likely receive relief from one or more epidurals. Therefore, an epidural is a good first step and will most likely provide some relief. Physical therapy and perhaps traction on your neck will as well, as will the appropriate medications.
