Xray showed hip ok, mri of pelvis, hip and knee showed tear in miniscus (which I've had for many years with no further problems. I also have the bottom two discs involved and have had that for years as well, without further problems.

A month ago I started having, for no apparent reason, pain in the upper left thigh where it almost meets the groin towards on the outer side of the thigh. It radiates toward the inner thigh, and down the front of the thigh to the knee. The knee then started to act up.

I can play golf, exercise etc. It hurst severely when I turn the wrong way (as when I sleep and try to turn over)....or put weight on it the wrong way.

I don't want to do knee surgery which has been under control if it's not the reason for the thigh/hip pain....but can't get any conclusive answers.

Where to go from here???? Help!

  • i'M really not sure. Saw the dr. yesterday and his conclusion is that it's arthritis and eventually will need it replaced. In the meantime I have an appt with an ortho. I guess I'll have to try a shot or meds until it gets bad enough to see on an xray and then do the surgery....hopefully not for a while. Thanks for your reply

Help!Did they check to see what shape your hip socket was? If it is shallow the ball of the hip or tendons around it may be slightly slipping causing problems with your legs. It could also be wear and tear from arthritis that also causes these symptoms. Surgery is usually the last option for these problems things like physio and acupuncture can help in the meantime. I suggest you try finding a physio who understands muscular skeletal problems they should be able to give you some exercises that will help instead of making things worse. I do Pilates style physio for my Ehlers Danlos and it can help my hips and knees

  • Thanks for your reply and info. A labrum tear was found after arthrogram and I have arranged for arthroscope in a few weeks. The good news was there doesn't seem to be much arthritis there. Thanks again.
