What else is a possibility

I have been experiencing weakness in my left are/hand/fingers which has been increasing over the past twelve month. There is no numbness, tingling or pain. I do have muscles twitching in that forearm - these twitches can be seen at times, both in my forearm and in the back of may hand. The hand/arm is considerably weaker than my other arm. I am unable to completely close my fingers and am unable to life any finger (other than my pinkie which still works) if I place my hand on a flat surface.

I have had many blood tests which show no metabolic issue, and identify no real issues. I've had a neck MRI which has (I think) ruled out the possibility of a pinched nerve in my neck.

I'm trying to understand what might be causing this but just don't know enough. In addition to ALS,(or some varient), MS or lyme disease - what could this possibly be - anyone got any ideas?

I see the neurologist again in a few weeks after an EMG - I think next after that is a brain scan...

Any thoughts about what else I might look at asa cause would be appreciatsed. Thanks:eek:

PS - please excuse typing - difficult to use my left hand effectively.

  • Hi,I wish I could tell you what's going on with you because that would also mean I could tell you what is wrong with me and help you.I had a fall in June 2006 and started using a cane. I was diagnosed with arthritis the prior year, so they thought my slow healing from the fall was just arthritis. But starting in August, I started to feel weakness in my right arm which I initially thought was carpal tunnel. Then the weakness started in the upper right arm and then the left arm, particularly in on the outside/peripheral part of my arms. Then my legs to the point I can barely walk and have gone from a cane to a walker and now they are talking scooter.I have had every blood/urine test you can think of - they have tested for everything. At first they thought is was metastatic cancer which was spreading. I was hospitalized to take more tests, a CAT scan and MRIs. They found a cyst in my pelvis area, a goiter in my throat and some unexplained happening on my spinal cord. I just had another MRI (brain) today. My neurologist just called to say that my muscle biopsy was negative, so now we're back to the original pre-diagnosis of some kind of nerve damage/disease which has no treatment or cure. Before this, it was muscle damage/disease or ALS. I am having another EMG soon because my doctor says this is progressive and my symptoms will change from time to time.I am very scared, frustrated and feeling depressed. I am a single parent with 2 kids and a mother with cancer. There is no way I can live with this crippling disease and take care of my family let alone take care of myself. I hope you find the answers you are looking for from your doctors. I will let you know if I find out anything further.Pammie
