Very Odd jaw pain...

For about a week now, the left side of my jaw has been in pain. It is stiff and sore and hurts when I open my mouth or when I chew. It also gives a "pop" every time I chew. It feels as if both my left TMJ joint and some surrounding muscles are hurting. I have taken anti inflamatories for five days now without significant improvement. I cannot recall any physical injury that would account for this. Has anyone experienced something similar?

  • I had this same problem. Mine started about 5 years ago, and lasted for about 2 years. Medicines didn't help, physical therapy didn't help. It was really painful in the morning, and I would have trouble even getting a spoon in my mouth. When I went to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, to everyone's surprise it completely went away. I haven't had pain or popping since! I hope you figure out what is going on. Maybe if you haven't already had your wisdom teeth remove that would fix your problem. I think my teeth were starting to press on some nerves in my mouth, and they were pushing my jaw out of alignment. I really hope you get this problem fixed, I know how painful it is, especially when you are trying to eat. Good luck!

  • Wow, THANKS! I've seen a doctor and two dentists, and everyone has drawn a blank. Actually, I haven't had my wisdom teeth removed yet. I've been meaning to do it, but I think i'm going to bump that up on my agenda. Thanks again!!!!
