Two years ago I jammed my little toe on a wooden chair leg. The pain was extreme. The top of my foot turned black with bruising/hemotoma, there was a lot of swelling that went up to my knee at times, but especially collected in my ankle. I couldn't put any weight on it nor could I even let it hang below waist level because the pressure of the blood going to it hurt so badly. After 9 months it healed or at least I thought it did, all pain and swelling went away, I could walk normally and for long distances again...even jump around. I want to note that I did get several x-rays and all were negative for any bone fractures. I also got a negative result for blood clot in the leg.
Well a month later, getting into the tub, bam I hit it again....and the pain all came back, as did the swelling. Now it doesn't hurt to touch it...it's not a skin sensitivity thing...it's a deep pain in the joint area that if I stay off of it stops hurting, but if I put weight on it or move it around much there's a hot burning pain that feels like nerves.
I did get a mri which showed synovial fluid leakage around the joint. One dr. said it was significant amount one said the opposite. They seemed to think I had capsulitus, but that should have healed after 6-8 weeks they said.
Ok now it's been 2 years since the initial trauma, and I can wear flat soft shoes, but still limp and can't put weight on my foot for long before I feel that intense pain again, sometimes with a delayed reaction. It does seem like the duration of pain, if I don't overdo it last less time. But when I do walk/hobble a bit too much it can last a week. It's so depressing.
A few drs. said rds but I'm not convinced. My foot isn't cold and the skin is not sensitive and the pain is not constant, though the problem seems to be. I wonder am I still healing from the injury or has it progressed to something else?
Please help....I miss walking, dancing, shopping for my own groceries.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
