Sudden Upper Arm Weakness????

I was rear ended by a truck while waiting at a red light and have had to undergo many surgeries to repair the damage done to my neck and back. I have titanium rods and plates in my neck and certain parts of my spine. This has left me with nerve damage and chronic pain for the past 8 years. I suffer from fibromyalgia mostly on the right side of my body. It is unbearable! Now for the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing extreme muscle weakness in the upper part of my right (dominant) arm. What could this possibly mean? I am so worried that I won't regain the full use of my arm again. I've had so many surgeries and have been in and out of physical therapy for years that I've been terrified to go and find out what's wrong. I just keep hoping that the strength will come back. What could this possibly be? I know I need to see the doctor but I just wish I kind of had an idea of what's going on. Any ideas? Please help.

  • Where is it on your upper arm? Does it hurt to lift your arm to the side? to the front? to the back? Is it all the time or does it come and go? Is it more of the shoulder or the arm that hurts?
