Hi,I was wondering if anyone would know what it might be,it happend when a chiropractor adjusted my neck, now after 4 month,my head is actually tilted down,i can raise it and hold it straight for a little, but it just would go back to this down tilt, the back of the head appears to be raised up.He did it to improve my posture, that's what he said, that felt awkward and wrong right away and I asked him to correct this,he was very dissapointed with me,he moved my head really harsh,it didn't change it,i am still having the same thing for a very long time.In ER,they couldn't find anything wrong. What could it be?
It just like a nail in the back of my head,as if something is holding my head in this odd position.I can't see an orthopedist, here in Canada,it takes years to see an orthopedic surgeon :(.I have decided to start physiotheraphy,I talked to the physio guy and he said that chiro couldn't change my head position and that stretches will help me.What do you think? I did some stretches myself, but they don't seem to make any difference, may be he will give me the ones that will help. What would you do?And what could it be?

  • I would probably try a different chiropracter some of them are not much good it does sound like a condition that should respond to chiropractic. Did they take xrays or an MRI when you went to ER.

  • Thanks Oscar for your reply,in ER they found nothing,he probably moved a little one of the top joints, the ones that called axis and atlas, that's what I am thinking and I've read before that some of the chiropractors adjustments can't be seen on x-ray.I read the Quacks watch,I think that's how it's called, they tell a lot of bad stories about chiropractors adjustments. I am hoping, there are honest ones out there, but how do you find them.I am scared of them now :(.

  • Hi,thank you for your reply,my first reply to you seems to get lost, yes, they did an x-ray,but didn't find anything ,only a spurred disk.I am scared to see another chiropractor ,there are probably the good ones, but i am not sure if i am a good candidate for that :(,but I agree with you too.

  • Hi Natalie i think i misread your first post, i thought you had this problem before you saw the chiropractor, now I've read it again ,and i see you mean the chiro caused it, no wonder your wary of chiropractors. its common for x rays to reveal nothing, they often do not comment when the curvature of the spine is slightly out of out of whack, as a lot of doctors believe that this is no problem.Something must be causing your neck to be in this position, i think you should keep trying to find out what it is, and find someone who can help you, this is going to be difficult in my experience the majority of physios, chiros, are not much use and often aggravated my condition.I have also read chiro watch they sure do hate chiropractor's ,they sent me an email encouraging me to march around out front of the local chiro clinic, with a placard demanding it be shut down, i don't know what my chiro would have said if saw me doing that :) You said you had a spurred disk is this right can you say more about this.good luck

  • Thanks for your reply Oscar :),i can give them the address of this chiro to march around...lol.Yes he did that,he decided to improve my posture, that was his explanation. Why wouldn't he ask me if i want to get my head positioned in a down tilt position,i don't know and my posture is the same,I am not even surprised ,I was happy with the head position i was born with, just thinking of him makes me mad,to tell you honestly. He also dislocated my jaws,he rotated by head to do that, imagine that, but i didn't get into this here,I already saw a maxillofacial surgeon last week about this ( i was reffered to see him from ER), i need a night guard he said,so I am getting it as soon as I can.Not to mention my nose was swollen and now there is a little bump on the right side. .X-ray didn't find a fracture, but there is a bump,I am dreading to have anything done to my nose, really scared,I am hoping may be the nightguard will somehow improve the nose position too,but if not will have to see a surgeon for that too. It's been all like a nightmare to me,I think I have been in denial, hoping it will get better on it's own, since I was told there is no fractures, but I finally decided to stop crying and do something about that instead. So I am taking it one day at a time,it's been really depressing :(.But I am trying to stay positive as much as I can. I wish I never stepped into his office.I am sorry to hear that you didn't have luck with physio or chiropractic,Iam not surprised i think some of the specialists are not a good experts in what they do,but there are good ones I hope.I had experience with both types of physiotherapists, the one that didn't help and the other one who helped a lot.So don't be discouraged by that, like you said we need to continue to look for answers and I hope you will find the answers to your questions too ,I don't know your story, but I hope you feel better.About the spurred disk i mentioned,I had 2 reports, one done in ER ,second done after i saw my family doctor after i had a shooting pain in my heal.In ER they told me nothing wrong with you,a second report says this:"There is an early discogenic disease evident at C-5-6 with mild disk thinning and disk margin spurring and small focus of anterior capsular calcification. The other cervical disk spaces appear maintained. The intervertebral foramina appear clear. No cervical rib or bony injury is seen."And also Lumbar spine:" mild disk margin spurring is evident at L-4-5. (and all the other things are normal)I am seeing my family doc next week, previously he sent me to see a physiatrist, doctor who specializes in physical medicine,so he wants to discuss his report with me, physiatrist said i have a healthy spine, but I didn't find answers to my questions and it was dissapointing, because i hoped he will help. I have decided to start physio next week, I have pain in my back and my neck and a shooting pain in my heel too and my neck feels stiff and this down tilt just can't be a healthy thing,it makes me feel disabled for some reason, for now family doc prescribed me arthrotec and it's been helping me.Actually the shooting pain in the heel starts when i bend my head backwards,I am guessing it's pressing on some nerve that might be radiating down the heel, because in this x-ray report they didn't find anything wrong it says"Right calcaneus: No definite calcaneal spur, calcific plantar fasciitis or bony injury is seen"I found a good expression yesterday and now it is my motto :)"I will persist until I succeed. I will never consider defeat." Wishing you a good health and thank you for your reply.Natalie

  • Yes you are right chiropractor's should ask you first if you want your head on crooked before they do this :) boy it sounds pretty bad did he do the damage to your jaw also no wonder you are mad. I hope he never treats me.What was the problem that made you see a chiropractor in the first place.sounds like you have been xrayed pretty thoroughly but they did not turn up much. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things. Thanks for your interest in my health problems, i seem to be suffering from a bent spine(scoliosis) ,and an uneven and twisted pelvis. I also broke my ankle years ago, and it did not heal well, i cannot walk properly on it, and i swear this is what is stopping my back from getting better, but doctors just ignore me. When i told them at first they said there was nothing wrong with it, even though there was a piece of bone sticking out, then i got it x ray-ed, it was broken, still it did not matter to them, then got it cat scanned it turned out to be a worse type of fracture, one that is known to cause problems, they operated and took the fragment out, but i still cannot walk on it properly, but i know nobody will listen that is just how it is. Sorry to go on, it does no good but i cant help it.Like i said you seem to have the right attitude the only thing i would say is in my experience all the therapists and doctors are so sure of themselves even when it turned out they were wrong. I think you have to be prepared to listen carefully to them ask lots of questions read up on the net from reliable sources and make a judgement about whether they are the right person to treat you. wishing you a speedy recovery

  • Oscar,I am really sorry to hear about your health problems and it is so sad when doctors don't listen,it seems that when they don't help or in your case listen, they simply don't know how to fix your problem,I wish they would be just honest and say that don't know, but I guess they can't and so they act as if there is no problem at all,"it's all in your head" I think their favorite expression.Don't apologise,I totally understand, it is so hard sometimes to carry this and it feels easier when you share. It is so unfair when doctors don't take complains seriously and what is even more frustarting that our health seems to depend on what they can do for us.I hope there is a way for you to find a doctor who would try to look into this and help.Wishing you all the best and thank you for your kind words and your reply.Natalie

  • i would check again to see a orthopedic. It shouldnt take that long to get to see an orthopedic. I lived in ontario, and my daughter went to two since birth ( first one she saw retired) I know that chiropractors can realign the neck position, mine did that for me years ago, lucky for me , i had a good one. sounds like yours did more damage than good.
