Pins & Needles down arm

I've been experiencing annoying pins & needles down my left arm for the last 2 or 3 days.
I notice it when I put weight on the shoulder, say when I rest upon an arm rest.
The P&N goes away within a few minutes after I move my arm away, ie take the weight off my shoulder.
Therefore I'm assuming it must be a problem in my shoulder, eg a pinched nerve or something?
I'm 53 yrs old. I also have some arthritic pain in my big toe, (maybe psoriasis arthritis) so also thought it might be spreading to my shoulder.
My GP is a waste of time, so any suggestions?

  • I am by far not a doctor, but maybe seeing a neurologist wouldn't hurt. Could be something with the shoulder, or could be up in the neck. My GP was a waste of time as well. For one, he was afraid to put his pen to his prescription pad, and I just don't think he quite knew what to do with me. Finally, a physical therapist referred me to a pain clinic. Well, it's actually a Sports/Spine Rehab. Center, but they mainly manage pain. Has your GP recommended any testing at all? I'd say if the neurologist can't help, then maybe on to a rheumatologist or some sort of arthritis-related physician. Sorry i couldn't be of more help to you! Take care and hope you can get this figured out! dar66

  • My GP is only good for writing prescriptions, wants you in & out under 2 mins & isn't interested in finding out the cause of the pain. Some years ago I was in terrible pain with a cramped muscle down my neck & shoulder (other side to present problem).Painkillers barely made any difference & I couldn't get any sleep & was in real mess & getting worse, despite visiting the Doc every few days pleading for help, but he only prescribed stronger pills.I thought I'd end up with kidney damage through all the pills I was taking.Ended up in Hospital where they gave me valium which relaxed the muscle & I got some relief & fully recovered after a few days.In hindsight, the cause of the problem was due to work stress.I even visited him about stress problems, couldn't sleep etc & was worried about an upcoming event similar to the original event that caused post traumatic stress. He said "these things happen, get over it"I put up with it but some years later I visited another GP who sent me to a Psychiatrist & I've been on depression medication for the last six years & feeling much better. I don't have much faith in GP's.Over the years ago my two children & myself have seen GP's because of trauma accidents (all separate incidents & different GP's) & were told "it's only a strain or bruise etc etc".After a few days of pain we have visited a Hospital where Xrays showed a fracture! This has happened three times!
