Hello to all,

I have pains in the face (from Sinusitis maxillaries) and eyes. There is also Trigeminal II, very painful.
Many doctors say it comes from my neck (there are muscles, bunched up).

If somebody has or had something like that, please write it to me.

Thank you,
Buena

  • Hi buena, my sympathies to you, i know what its like. I broke the C4 vertabra in my neck its pressing on my spinal cord & C5 is now is now collasping. My accident happened when i was 17 when i was 37 trigeminal neuralgia started because of my neck injury. The bad news is 11yrs later its still going on......its very difficult to treat, alot of the drugs they will give u will cause so many other problems & not kill the pain. I give up on a cure & changed track learning to live with it instead. There are things i could tell u that may help. Also try accupunture this was one of the first things i tryed which started me onto the road of living with it........It really helps. When did this start with u ? what treatment have u tryed ?How often & how long to ur attacks last ? Trigeminal neuralgia is the worse pain known to man & has drove many to sucide.....but uve got to beat it. Its a vecious circle u have the pain then when pain free u fear the next bout of pain......and so it goes on...... You need to brake this cycle because believe me this increases the attacks...........It took me a long time to learn this. Now im back to work, doing well, having less attacks, when an attack comes on I ride it out instead of tensing up, ive found now doing this shortens the length of attacks and also they are not as severe......my recovery time is quicker & i can function better. If can help u at all i will. Regards :)

  • Hello Tootsie, Thank you for reply. There was help with pills with hydrocloride (for muscle spasm). Doctors say, it is reflex pain and is not typical TN. I have it from 1983 and from 1989 search the cause for sinusitis. I have found for sinusitis (neck muscles) but can't find cause for neck muscles. X-rays show my neck all black. That black are muscles and they block circulation in the face, shoulder and head. I have terrible pressure from the top of the head down to the eyes and face. I had also help from one Neurologist (1997-1999) from abroad with injection on the right side of the neck. There is also pinched nerve on C5, Subscapular nerve and pain is going into sinusitis (one part to the shoulder and upper arm). About suicide you are right. I have tried it as well, but have survived. Kind greetings,Buena

  • Hi again buena, You say u take Hydrocloride (tramadol) ? or did u mean Hydrochloride (Amitriptyline) ? Tramadol did not work for me............Amitriptyline is used for chronic pain, im taking it 11yrs.....although i would also say it doesn't work but if i stop taking it i can not sleep.........i will get around to getting off it...eventually ! 1.....Baclofen i found to be much better for muscle spasms.....i had no adverse effects on this. 2.....Atenolol (beta blocker) also good for this, although it might make u feel tired..........personally i found it a great help ! 3.....Accupunture really helps also.........plz give it a try. These are the 3 things that help me to get on my feet again. Another thing i should mention that i done without realising it......during the bouts of pain I was shallow breathing (not intentionally) but breathing was increasing the pain as every breath of air was hitting trigeminal nerve.....so i unintentionally tryed to stop this.................that is the worst thing to do.........my oxygen levels where crashing..........this intensified the pain and took longer to recover..............i found this out pure by chance.......I took ill one day in the bank & they called an ambulance, when they arrived they put sats clip on my finger to record levels, they found i was low in oxygen & immediately put me on oxygen. I have now been supplied with oxygen at home, but through time i have now found that on the onset of pain if i breath as deeply & calmly as i can, i can stop this & dont always need to go onto oxygen. Anyway eventually i was able to change things & taken control back of my life.............I got back to work which improved my self esteem, I dont let things worry me or stress me out the way i use too.Even when im busy or under pressure with work I still control it, I except that there is only so much i can do & dont beat myself up over it...........I refuse to let things needle me, it they start i brake the cycle of thinking by counting in my head.....ya cant think & count at the same time......lol.......I also go into relax mode ! The depression has lifted............the attacks are less, my recovery is quicker, I bounce back & get on with it & instead of worrying about the next attack I treat everyone as if it was the last.....as some day it will be ! Im happier than i have ever been in my life, friends have seen such a change in me......so if i can do it anyone can ! If anyone had told me this 11yrs ago i would not have listened & told them "I Can't Live With It..... I Want A Cure !" sometimes uve just got to do what ya have to do & sometimes there is no cure.....so u have to find a way to live with it......actually that is a kind of cure in itself ! I hope in telling u this that it will help you ! Byeeeeee 4 now :) hugs !

  • I will agree to find a good acupuncturist - it will help tremendously! I have treated many patients with neck pain, fused discs, and more and often acupuncture is the only treatment that helps. To find an acupuncturist, please visit www.nccaom.org or www.acufinder.com. Tootsie you are right that sometimes you cannot find a cure and the best solution is to manage your condition so you can live the best way you can. I found your post inspiring and know it will help others! Best wishesDOM

  • Hello Tootsie, I see you are all in USA but I am in Europe. Acupuncture is everywhere the same. I have got many acuppunctures during the years (from 1992) but all on wrong places. Of course it didn't help me. Now I know where to get it but too late! What is better for me is Moxa, special kind of Acupuncture. I know only two doctors that give such a therapy and they are far away from me (they are married couple and both have lived and worked in Thailand). He was even in more countries: China and Sri Lanka. About Tramadol: yes it did help me but together with Sirdalud (pills from Switzerland). Both have hydrocloride (again) and both have helped me two years: from 1998-2000. After that year nothing at all: no physiotherapy, no pills. Except Galsud and now is over with those pills. They can send only bigger package and not small as before. Tootsie, can you explain me now, what kind of pains you had? I can tell you mine: there is ached pain (steady) from the bottom of the neck going straight on to the right eye. I feel as there is top of knife in my eye. What is worse here, my face gets swollen at the same time and the pain in the sinusitis is also at the same time. When I was in Pain Centre some years ago, there was woman with typical Trigeminal Neuralgia (lasts few seconds, like from heaven) and she looked normal. What is your case? Thank you for trying to help me, Hello DOM, Thank you as well for trying to help me, but I am far away in other part of the world. Kind regards to both of you,Buena

  • Hi again buena, as u have asked me i will explain what happens to me.............first of all when i was first diagnosed with TN i didnt believe it was correct as everything i read about it didnt match mine, but ive since had it explained to me so now i except it......its all to do with my neck injury. The pain came on very sudden but it would have stayed with me for 2hours, 1 hour of that would be that intense i would have completly lost time......& that is very weird........ if someone give me a gun i would have put it to my head to stop it. What actually happens is the pain would start in my jaw, it would move into my nose & eye, the right side of my face would puff up & my eye would buldge & eye lid droop, the whites of my eyes would turn red........ my neck would feel like someone hit me with a baseball bat........it would move into my throat where it is hard to swallow & every breath hit my trigeminal nerve thats why i would shallow breath.......I would turn gray & my lips would turn blue............it is so intense that u feel it is going to kill u, then it will take u to the stage u wish it would kill u.......i can not talk or call for help, if someone is with me & they try to talk to me the noise of their voice is unbearable...... it literally changes my whole face, anyone that has wittnessed it, it has scared them they think im dying infront of them & there is nothing anyone can do.............the highest number of these attacks i have had in 24hours is 11.............the average number would have been around 4 in 24hours. That would have been all in the first hour, the second hour would have been the pain slowly lowering until i would be able to move again...............pain killers never even touched this & no previous medication they give me worked.....they just caused other problems. It got that bad that really i was preparing to die one way or another, i couldn't continue any more with them.........thats another story....but it was at this point i had to do something either i went down or i had to find a way to cope & live.............i have a beautiful daughter & quite frankly i didnt want to leave her no matter what, she was so destressed by this.........so that is why i changed track & realised i had to heal myself or find a way to cope...........and that brings me back to the orginal mail i sent u on how to do it. It transformed my life...........even if this doesnt fit in with what ur going through, u can adopt my strategy, you can still look for answers & hopefully find a cure but in the mean time try & do what i suggested it cant do u any harm.......to start off with it wasnt easy & i really had a struggle with it, i kept at it, what else could i do.........nothing worthwhile is ever easy.........its 3 years now, im still doing it & still winning, with the odd blip in between, if i fall i get straight back up again & start again. Sorry this is so detailed but there is no short way of telling it ! Really buena if i can over come this anyone can...........please try it ! Actually yoga could help u achive this as well. Best wishes:) Oooh the other thing is i am in Northern Ireland. where about are u in Europe ?

  • Dear Tootsie,I am glad to have you here but not glad about all you went through. I am lucky as well that you are proof for everybody on the Forum and most of all for me, that there is not only typical Trigeminal Neuralgia, but also atypical. I knew that I have it because (before I came here) was in abroad and one Neurologist gave me one injection in the bottom of the neck and my pains were over (for few years). I remember very well that he told me, I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. After I came here have started to study this TN and nothing was like my pains. So, I was in dilemma: did I hear and understand right this Neurologist or not? My dilemma was even bigger because all doctors told me, that is not TN. The very first time, my ORL doctor wrote to me (beside Sinusitis vasomotor) also Trigeminal Neuralgia I and II. When I look all three branches of TN, there are more II and III.Now I will write about atypical TN (I have full map of different diseases, I collect them).__________________________________________________ ___________- ATYPICAL TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA -1. IN CONTRAST TO THE TYPICAL TYPE, ATYPICAL TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA SEEMS TO CAUSE PAIN CONSTANTLY WITH THE INTENSITY INCREASING AND DECREASING. THERE ARE TRIGGER ZONES WITH THIS TYPE; HOWEVER THERE ALSO IS IN AREA OF DULL ACHING (THAT IS ME) WHICH IS INTENSIFIED BY TOUCHING THE TRIGGER ZONES. ALL THREE DIVISIONS OF THE TRIGEMINAL NERVE SEEMS TO BE AFFECTED EQUALLY. A COMMON CAUSE OF THIS DISORDER IS TRAUMA, ESPECIALLY AFTER A SURGICAL INCISION OR BLOW TO THE FACE (IN MY CASE THAT IS NOT THE CAUSE).2. ATYPICAL TN IS CHARACTERIZED BY A UNILATERAL, PROMINENT CONSTANT AND SEVERE ACHING, BORING OR BURNING PAIN SUPERIMPOSED UPON OTHERWISE TYPICAL TN SYMPTOMS. THIS SHOULD BE DIFFERENTIATED FROM CASES OF TYPICAL TN THAT DEVELOP A MINOR ACHING OR VASCULAR COMPRESSION IS THOUGHT TO BE THE CAUSE OF MANY CASES OF ATYPICAL TN. SOME BELIEVE ATYPICAL TN IS DUE TO VASCULAR COMPRESSION UPON SPECIFIC PART OF TRIGEMINAL NERVE (THE PORTIO MINOR), WHILE OTHERS THEORIZE THAT ATYPICAL TN REPRESENTS A MORE SEVERE FORM OR PROGRESSION OF AFFECTED DISTRIBUTION OF THE TRIGEMINAL NERVE.__________________________________________________ ____________As you see Tootsie, there is right description of my pains but still nothing about neck in connection with ATN. From here I have Vein, 10x17 mm on the bottom of my skull (MRI, September 2006). I am sick to teach the doctors (they don't like if you talk too much) how ATN pains look like. About therapy: it is true that acupuncture helps and I need 50 of them (at least). Acupuncture can’t stop the cause.I have one book from Louise Hay from 1996 where every vertebra is the cause for some disease. Between all them I have: C3 for TN, C2 for Sinusitis and C5 for Sub scapular nerve that goes over shoulder blade to the upper arm. Now you can find it all over Search engine. Only doctors don't know that.I am fighting on, but slowly lose all my will for anything. I have lost all because of some strange pains, they are very easy for some doctors and for others is big enigma.Thank you very, very much for being here with me.Wish you nice day,Buena (from SLO – part ex YU)

  • Hello Tootsie, I have feeling that I wrote something wrong. I am sorry if that is so. I didn't answer your questions: 1. My pains started in Secondary school together with Sinusitis. After that I have got help from one Neurologist in abroad. 1983 was again worse and since then is worse and worse. 2. I live now in Slovenia (born in Croatia): both part of ex Yugoslavia. Have a nice weekend,Buena

  • Hi buena, u didnt say anything wrong...:) I had to do some work last night & was to tired to reply. My first diagnosis was sinusitis which was wrong, I think doctors just work through a list of possibilitys until they hit the right one. Do u use nasal sprays at all ? If u do i find they can make the situation worse.....my friend suffers with sinusitis, she told me to try nasal sprays.........i did & it made matters worse......i will never use them again.....also i can not take decongestants.....they dry everything up in my head....increasing the problem & headaches. Can u buy Glucosamine Sulphate tablets in Slovenia ? if so get them they will help with ur neck & aches & pains.....I take them & have found an improvement on them. Chronic pain wears u down.....please try relaxing techiques & avoid stress.............try to get into self healing & positive thinking, u can improve things for urself with determination. Byeeee for now :) hugs

It seems to be good for me! About drops and spray: I used to take too long drops for Rhinitis vasomotoria (one of my wrong diagnosis) and that didn't help me. In contrary my mucous membrane became totally dry. Glucosamine Sulphate tablets! What is that? About Acupuncture I know it is good now. I should meet right acupuncturist before. Kind regards,Buena

  • Hello DOM, Now I eat twice a day: Breakfast: Black coffee with lemon, Cornflakes with milk and one Calcium. Dinner: I eat a lot more. Most of all: different kinds of salad, beans, eggs, potatoes, fish, cabbage, yoghourt and in last time one apple. Before that more bananas. I may not eat too often, because my digestion is blocked. About drinking: not very much! Some kind of fruit juice (orange), but more water than juice! Since one month I take one Multivitamin in the afternoon, because I don't have enough of B12, Iron and sour. What I want to tell you: summer 2001 I have found in old Encyclopaedia one Myalgia called Rheumatic Myalgia (because of Neurovegetative system). There were names of four pills: all with hydrochloride. I think that I have something to do with that (my muscle), because EMG has shown that my muscles are OK. There is swollen and hard neck muscle and how can be OK? Regards,Buena

  • Hello my dear Tootsie, Thank you very much for both answers. You are proof that I am not alone, that there is not only me with such a pains and I don't lie about that. They can also see on my face because like you my face changes a lot as I am somebody else. Next time I will ask my doctor where he looks. Does he look at me or to the sky? I am sick of all them. About pills Galsud: can you ask how much you can buy? I used to send 10 GBP to my friends in London (for 3 packages), but there are now some problems with them. I would be very glad to stay in connection with you. If you want so? Wish you nice holidays,Buena

I was lost when this all started with me & it would have helped me so much at the time if i had knew someone that understood my pain & had some kind of support. I want to give u a contact address where u can email me directly.tootsie1960@btinternet.com I will go into town on saturday & check out supply & cost of pills for you. Regarding how your face changes during your pain it would be a good idea if you could take pictures of this to show your doctor how badly it effects you.......I actually done this but they where so awful i never showed them to anyone.....silly really....:D but they where so ghastly. Doctor are so frustrating but lets face it they really know so little about this....we want them to wave a magic wand but that wand doesnt excist.......thats why i give up on them & started to learn ways of coping with it, its the only way to reclaim your life back.
