About three weeks ago the top of my foot started hurting very bad. It comes and goes, but when I wear lace up shoes it really hurts. Haven't dropped anything on my foot or twisted an ankle. What could this be??

  • Due to the hypermobility and laxness of your foot (Read your other post) you could have easily had a bone or two slip out of place. Try wrapping the foot up with a bandage for a few hours, but not too long or often as it will weaken the muscles causing more problems. Try Ice or heat on it (Depends which you can tolerate - I cannot use ice for my injuries) and rest it as much as possible. I use a heat rub to massage in when I have this problem and it helps ease the pain as well as relax the muscles enough to allow the bones to return to the right place. You may need to see a podiatrist for orthotics. I use ankle braces and insoles due to major problems with my feet and ankles.

  • It could also be tendonitis. I've had the same problem since 2000. I now know mine is related to my bowel disease. (Not that you have anything like that going on) If it starts in the other foot or if you have any other kind of joint or muscle pain you should talk to your doctor. You should also ask for a thyroid panel next time you talk to him as well. Hope this helps! Kiera

  • Thanks Kiera. I do have arthritis and my doctor always does a thyroid test when I get my blood work. I am curious. What kind of bowel disease would cause this type of pain?

  • I have IBD, but not sure what yet. Can take time to get an accurate diagnose. I most likely have Crohns, but it could also be Ulcerative Colitis. There are a number of autoimmune diseases that can cause joint/tendon/muscle pain tho. Good Luck Kiera

  • Haven't tried the acupuncture. Have thought about it for my other arthritis pain though. Acupuncture rocks! It is so helpful for so many different things. Please look into this form of medicine. Visit www.acufinder.com or www.NCCAOM.org for more info and to find a practitioner near you. Best wishesDOM
