Hi, I am new to this site and have a condition called, dermatmyositis, there is another condition that is similar, called polymyositis,DM, for short, involves the muscle and the skin, there are only about one per million people who have it,the derma, part is the skin problem and the myositis is the muscle problem, there is a rash over the eyes, cheeks, knuckles which is called gottrons sign,it is also on the neck, chest, thigh, elbows, it is pinky, purple in colour, and is photosensitive, the muscles closest to the trunk are the most affected, they have inflamation in the muscle fibre, and become weak, this makes it very difficult to get up from a sitting position. rise from a chair, brush ones hair and climb the stairs,I also have vasculitis which is a less common feature of DM,I take methotrexate 20mg weekly and am also on steroids,I would love to hear from anyone who may also have this problem, IT IS CALLED POLYMYOSITIS AND DERMATOMYOSITIS,thank you very much cadge

  • I have Polymyositis and it is very frustrating because there is not a lot help in what to do for it. I am now involved in aqua therapy to try to keep what muscle tone I have left. I do not have the derma involvement but I did have to switch to everything unscented (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, toilet paper, etc.)I was told, by the doctor, not to lift more than 8 lbs and only exercise to keep what I have but I am not to try to build my muscles.. This could have been because of the Polymyositis and not the MCTD. I also have lupus, Raynaud's, GERD, and fibermyalgia. I get so confused about these diseases, which one is causing what. KATELYN
