From as far as I can remember my mother and I have been Obese. We tried every diet and exercise program we could find but we could never maintain a good exercise program and the diets were too expensive. Two years ago we met a man that said he could put us on a diet that could make us loose forty (40)pounds in the same number of days. It was expensive but I had just left high school and needed a change from being the fat guy that everyone laughed at to just normal, and my mother wanted to look the way she did years ago(before i was born that is). We went on the diet and injections and at the end of the forty days i went from three hundred to two hundred and sixty pounds and my mom went from two eighty to two sixty pounds. We were proud that finally some hard work actually paid off.

We started to attend a gym and the trainer started us off on light body movement until we were able to do clean and presses with light weight. Today i'm at two twenty and my mom is back at two eighty with chronic shoulder pain and a gigantic loss of muscle in her shoulders and arms. Her doctor even described her should to have little or no muscle with many damaged cartilages. She wakes up in the middle of each night crying and living off pain killers. It is depressing to watch over and over again every night. She is fed up and tired and my father and I are frustrated and heart broken so my home is not the happiest of places. I need some help, advice or even just a word of encouragement that there is a cure.

After doing clean and presses every night at the time we both started to develop shoulder and back pains which were related to the spine according to our doctors. I got over mine and i'm still an active gym member going at least four times a week however my mom sits in pain and discomfort in the days and nights. We are from Jamaica and unless you are wealthy or "important" it is hard to find good medical assistance that would actually give good answers. I really just need some help she can hardly move her right arm now and the more it worsens the harder life becomes for our family. Please help!

  • I'm sorry to hear about your situation it must be very hard. I think with most muscle problems the less you move the muscles the worse they become so you might be feeling better because you are so active. Your mother is worse because of the pain causing her to not move. Maybe if she tries some light exercises just to build a little strength back she will improve. You can suggest exercising in water because it will be easier for her. Noone likes to be in pain and sometimes the pain can also lead to unhealthy choices. Losing even a little bit of weight will help her so just try to be supportive and help her out as much as you can. I wish you all the best.
