muscle jerking

I have been having a strange thing happening to me. I'll be sound asleep and all of a sudden my muscles will start jerking. It can be every muscle in my body (it seems). I just lay there for a few minutes and it goes away. I can't get up to try and walk it off like you would a cramp. It's almost like epilepsy or parkinsons disease, or what I imagine they would be like.

This is very scary for me. It's been happening about once a week. I do take 1mg of zanex to get to sleep, but I can't see that being the cause.

If anyone has experienced anything like this, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts. And what sort of Doctor should I start with to try and get an answer?
