Lump on side of hand - broken or bruised?

I was larking about with my brother at the weekend and he ended up punching my hand on the side between my little finger and my wrist. I immediately got pins and needles throughout my hand and it swelled.

The swellling is now going down and the bruise is starting to come out. I can move my fingers/make a fist etc but that side of my hand is still very sore. There is also a hard lump right in the middle of the bruise and my hand is aching.

I've been to a nurse clinic for advice and was told that it was likely just bruised. It is really sore though - is it worth going for an xray to see if the bone is broken? I'm just bothered about the lump on the side of my hand. If I can move the fingers is it likely to be broken?
