I Was Taking Quinine For Muscles Spasms. They Started In The Legs And Feet A Long Time Ago And For The Last Few Years Quinine Seemed To Take Care Of It. They Have Stopped Making Quinine And I Would Like To Know If Here Is Something Else I Can Take. Also , I've Changed Cholesterol Medicine Three Times For Muscle And Joint Pain. Niacin Is Giving Me A Terrible Reaction And I'm Waiting To Find Out What My Doctor Is Planning To Do.i'm Taking Synthroid And I Felt Ok Before I Started Taking These Cholesterol Meds. Does Anyone Have Any Advice?

  • Quinine is still around in tablet form via prescription & the generic kind tends to be fairly cheap. My doc gives me muscle relaxers for days when the spasms are super bad or if they interfere with sleep (occasionally). Otherwise, lots of water, electrolytes, & vitamins seem to help somewhat, also hot baths & stretching right before bedtime. I just try to ignore the ones during awake time. Good luck

  • My mother had leg cramps and used quinine when it got hard to find she started using potassium tablets. I use it for my leg cramps now. Should probably check with a doctor for a dosage but its worth trying

  • Yes, there is!! My mother was taking Quinine for a few years for leg cramps. When she just found out that it was going to be taken off the market, and has dangerous side effects, she went on the hunt to find what worked. She did! Eliminating meat from her diet has completely rid her of leg cramps at night that she was previously having to take a very large dose of Quinine as the only prevention that worked for her.

  • Manufacturing of Quinine has not stopped. I would die from loss of work beginning with loss of sleep after a bad night of feet cramps. Nobody understands unless they suffer from it. I get it from a New Zealand pharmaceutical and buy it by the 100's in case it really ever does stop being manufacturered. The company is the same name of that small hairy fruit. Hope this helps.
