I have suffered with HKPP for 15 years and only have debilitating attacks 2 or 3 times a year where i wake up to find I'm unable to move hips/legs for a couple of hours. As the strength returns I find I am severely fatigued which leads to long periods of sleep for a day or two after the episode.

I find these symptoms are worse at times when i am under stress - is this commo?

Does anyone else encounter similar symptoms and has anyone found a way to avoid/minimise these episodes?

  • I have suffered from HypoKalemic Periodic Paralysis since I was 15. I am currently 21, I have on occasion woken up paralyzed, 8 times in that 6 year time frame! I take K daily; the Doctors that diagnosed me also told me to stop all strenuous activity, i.e. tennis working out running, basically staying fit. To me if you have more muscle endurance then you can do more and not be fatigued or paralized less, so far so good, aside from minor fatigue and muscle weakness I am coming up on my 2 year mark without an attack! As far as your question, being 21 getting my first apartment and paying all my own bills and the stress of the real world here lately I have been having more pain, and weakness. I had the occasional pains but here lately its been worse because of the stress. Its almost as if i just cant ever relax, im always tense, and sore!
