Hi. I'm hoping someone out there has had the same side effect to Gabapentin that I'm experience (and an encouraging story that it decreases quickly!)

I have just started taking this med, 300 mg at night. I am on a schedule to increase it until until I am taking 6 of these a day. On this schedule, I've only taken 1 pill at night twice so far. And it makes me drunk as a skunk.

While quite entertaining for my husband, I am concerned about how on earth I'm going to be able to drive to work and think straight on this drug.

Someone please tell me this reduces fast. I want to comply with the dr.s orders so I'll know if this can help. But, good grief!

Thank you!
RM

I was getting a spaced out feeling with it. Im now down to 100 mg 3xday and its helping at the lower dose. when i need more I up it to 3oo mg at night only.

  • Right now I'm taking Gabapentin, and am on 3 x 300mg a day. I find taking it with food helps the foggy feeling. I've been on these for about a month and have been told to start upping the dose to 6 x 300mgs a day. Can I ask if you are noticing a reduction in pain? Because so far I'm finding I'm having more bad than good days on these things, so not very helpful :(

  • I'm the origninal poster. I've now been on it for 3.5 weeks and TA-DAH!!...I am noticing a difference! Hallalujah! It was rough going for the first couple of weeks, but the sleepy dopey feeling is becoming less. I'm now taking 2 300 mg capsules at night.I've had left waist pain for years. It was becoming stronger in the abdomen. And, being of the female persuasion, I'd been checked from stem to stern without finding any explanation. I have 2 birth defects at T12, spina bifida occulta and pars defect, both on the left. I've always found it highly suspicious when Dr.s told me these have no symptoms when the area I felt pain corresponded so strongly with it.Finally, I changed to a different practice and these Docs put me on the gabapentin. They feel the defects may be impacting the nerves in this area. I'm really glad I stuck it out, though I felt pretty drunk and stupid in the beginning. I'd been having daily pain at about 6/10. Now I'd say it's down to about 3. Less pain is EVER so much better than more. I feel like a new being. Thanks everyone for their support.
