My mom fell 8/1/10 and fractured her femur with one small section floating. They did surgery two days later and put a rod with two screws one at the hip & one at the knee. She is 66 & has Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoporosis. She spent 5 days in the hospital and then went to rehab for 3 weeks. Surgeon who did the surgery had mom had toe touch only until middle of October and said weight bearing as tolerable, this xray was the 1st he had seen healing. Of course she did not listen to him and was walking long before then. She traveled to FL for the winter and seen a Surgeon 11/4, since the middle of October she has bent a screw and now her knee is out of aligment 1/8". She has serve pain in the knee. This Surgeon who she thinks the world of says if he had done the surgery he would of put in 5/6 screws and she wouldn't have this problem. Sorry Long Story.
She is now scheduled to have 2nd surgery with complete replacement of the rod. I just don't understand why he couldn't just fix the screw. This man has a total different thoughts then the orignal surgeon. She went there only because it is around the corner from her house. She tells me she will be walking with a cane within a month.
Has anyone heard of this. I've upset my mom because I told her I think she needs another opinion including original surgeon and she won't listen to me. The original surgeon is suppose to be the best on our town but has no bed side manner. The new surgeon has a great bed side manor and I have no clue about his abilities. Thank you for any input you can give me.
