I'm wondering if I've got a rib fracture and if so what things I should avoid. I am 24yrs olf with osteopenia and ammenorrhoea secondary to relapse of anorexia, current BMI 18. I had a fall where when I went to get up I was so blinded by pain I almost fainted and had to sit down for a few moments then walked slowly, was unsteady, and very tender in the hip and right chest (mid to lower ribs). No obvious deformity. Through 3-4layers of clothes I grazed the illiac protrusion on the anterior side of the body. I have been taking nurofen plus (ibuprofen with codeine) and digesic TDS (2tabs of each analgesic per dose) and that takes the edge off but not the pain away. I have strong pain in the ribs when I carry anything other than a tiny handbag with the right arm and cannot put pressure on it. I have to be careful how I sit, move, stand and the hip is tender also. This is over 50hrs post injury and the reason I haven't been to a doctor as yet is my breathing is fine (rubs hurt on coughing and reaching overhead)...also, from my understanding there is nothing that can medically be done for rib fractures. So, should I go get an xray/CT/both/other? Is it likely to be a rib and/or illiac fracture/chip? If yes then what activities/etc should I avoid and for how long? (I usually do yoga 3-6times a week in addition to plenty of walking and being a single mother to an active 4yr old boy.)
