Foot run over by cart

My wife's foot was run over by a cart at a festival last Saturday (similar to a golf cart I guess). She went to the emergency room and the x-ray was normal so apparently nothing was broken. It was swolen initially but the swelling and discoleration is mostly gone. However after 6 days there is still considerable pain. She will be seeing a doctor next week but in the meantime any advice or thoughts would be helpful.

Should she be resting the foot or exercising it? Is it unusual to have the pain last that long if nothing was broken? What is probably causing the pain?

  • Hi i can say that your wife definitely should be resting her ankle at the moment, and for the next couple of weeks, all though gentle non weight bearing exercises are often prescribed (ask a doctor) Its not that unusual for an ankle to remain painful for a week or more especially when it has been badly sprained which is probably the source of your wife's pain, the lateral ankle ligaments are very easily damaged and this could be the problem.ankle fractures are sometimes missed on the initial x ray so if the pain continues to be severe and healing does not seem to be happening complain loud and long to a doctor for another x ray or ct scan.
