I fractured my left femur almost 5 years ago and had a rod & pins inserted and then removed a year later. Ever since, I have had a pain in my left hip whenever I do abduction exercises or other similar movements. I can only describe the pain as feeling like it is pulling and will snap if I do not relax the muscle. I have gone to physical therapy and exercise frequently but the pain always continues. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? Thanks!!

  • I did not look to see how long ago you posted this so I don't know if you have found any ways to make the pain subside but I have the exact same problem. 3 years ago, I broke my right hip. It was a freak accident as I was actually mowing the yard, fell, then went camping the next day and apparently slept on a rock or something which finished it off. I really don't know how it exactly happened as I had and still have strong bones, etc. Anyway, I went to 4 different doctors and to the ER twice before they even found it. I was labeled as "doctor shopping" because it took that many doctors and 3 xrays and 1 MRI within a month's time to discover that I wasn't making it up and that something was really wrong. I walked around on crutches that whole time, which, according to the surgeon, caused so much trauma to my hip that it took twice as long to heal. I was only 38 years old at the time and had a 2-year old at home and a husband that worked out of town. Well, as soon as they found the break, I was admitted into the hospital that same night and had surgery the next day (1 rod and 2 screws). I have never felt such excruciating pain and I have given birth four times! My problem is that there is never a day that goes by that I am NOT in pain! They had me on high doses of percocet, lortab and oxycontin for a few months after surgery. So much, that I became somewhat addicted. Then, they cut me off of EVERYTHING completely! Therefore, more stress and trauma on my body. I don't want anymore pills. I just want it to stop hurting! I need advice also, please! I went through all of the Physical Therapy and quite frankly, it didn't help. It basically just taught me how to walk normal (or somewhat normal) again. I NEED HELP too! Any advice? Any strengthening exercises, vitamins, or anything I can do to help? I also played sports, rode horses, etc. And, I have four very active boys that I love to play sports with but just can't like I used to (if even at all).
