Elbow not right years after fracture

About 5 years ago I had a bike accident (throttle stuck in 2nd gear, red lined, narrow down hill road, double parked cars, tank slapper at ~60 mph). When falling off the bike I outstretched my arm to break my fall, causing an impacted fracture. The treatment was to hold my arm in a sling for two weeks. However, I still receive pain and stiffness from the joint. Sometimes when I try and straighten my arm it won't until I have bent the elbow and tried again, which usually causes a loud crack. I also get random 'crack' noises when moving my arm (once or twice a day), these are loud enough for my collogues to hear in the next room. I had an x-ray last year which didn't show any problems. Doctor wasn't much help, quote "if it gets worse come back". I also get a pain in my elbow when pulling the clutch leaver on my bike. Any explanation what could cause this and how to improve the elbow?

Any explanation what could cause this and how to improve the elbow?I came to this site because I myself am having problems with my elbow. I injured it in a car accident in August and it isnt back to normal yet. Im seeing an orthopaedic but he didnt tell me what is wrong with it. My x-rays looked fine and it definately wasnt broke or fractured as I had x-rays from 3 different doctors. Im not sure if it is a muscle problem or what. It took me 2 weeks to lift my arm on my own and about a month to even straighten it out. I can straighten it for the most part but my elbow doesnt look normal. I have problems eating with it, showering, brushing my hair, etc,. I am still having pain from my elbow and upper arm. So any suggestions for me and the OP is greatly appreciated because it is horrible living like this!

  • hi, similar problems. i had a compound fracture just above the elbow. 4.5 months in cast. arm is now shorter, bent, twisted and there's a loss in range of motion(30degrees).the arm is noticably deformed (should have been operated on) and 3yrs later still pain. i also had the locking when trying to extend arm. that is a trapped tendon i was told. doc said it would "round itself out" and in fairness it did, very much so after about a yr but still loud crack after extension some times, that is the tendon snapping back to position as far as i know, back in gym and elbow joint and forearm sore for days after. could any1 tell me if the missalignment of the fracture above the elbow is causing irregular forces/ strains on the joint and could it cause further damage down the road. thanks.
