I was wondering if anyone can help me. My son,Jayson 14yrs was diagnosed 6 months ago with CMT(a form of MD). He is also severly Autistic. Everything I have read says that cmt kids are able to walk most of their lives. My son cannot stand or walk. Could he have been misdiagnosed? What else could it be?

  • http://www.hnf-cure.org/html/whatiscmt.phpEvidently CMT caused weakness and atrophy.Get your son into physical therapy, ASAP. Also,http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/about_cmt/overview.phpCMT is alo known as peroneal muscular atrophy, so your son's muscles probably have atrophied to some extent. Although there's not much that can be done about the muscles already lost, he can work to stregnthen other muscles that arent as affected, and make walking easier. Also, if you cannot get his muscles working properly again, he may need to use brases. Good luck, and encourage him to hang in there!Sheena
