have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, have had very uncomfortable burning and tingling hands and feet for several years along with muscle aches, fatigue, restless legs, frequent urination, tendency to bladder infections, dry itchy skin, irritable bladder syndrome and it goes on and on. Recently have developed blurry vision and dry eyes too along with sacrum and hip pain. Have been tested for diabetes. Saw a neurologist who said no known reason for the burning hands and feet but that is something that gets very wearing. My feet and legs often ache so badly it feels like they should look black and blue but they don't look abnormal at all. Does anyone know of a way to minimize the burning?

  • Try taking vitamin b complex and niacin. You can break the niacin in half and take low doses so that it doesn't give you the "flushing" feeling, but it does help. Also look up "gout". I was experiencing similar things, and have changed my diet to stop the building up of "uric acid" in my system. I also buy dried cranberries and cherries, and eat a lot of blueberries which counteracts the uric acid buildup. I mix up trail mix loaded with dried cranberries and dry sweet cherries. You can get them at the health food store or in the bulk foods bin section of the big grocery stores. I even throw in dark chocolate chips. I have been amazed at how much this has helped. Hope it helps you as much as it helps me.... (Also, drink lots of water........)Dorene

  • I dont have any suggestions to help with the burning but you may not realise that FM people often go on and get CFIDS (chronic fatigue immunity disfunction syndrome also called CFS). These two illnesses are closely related and all the symptoms you described can happen with CFIDS. (something like up to 70% of CFIDS people have FM). I once went to a CFS/FM lecture which had a couple of specialists speaking, one was a rhemy who specialises in FM who said he now thinks of all his FM patients as probably future CFIDS patients as he has so many of his patients over time go on and get more symptoms which classify them as having CFIDS. Some statistics on these symptoms you said you have and the occurance of these in CFIDS patients are - Visual disturbance (scratchiness, blurring of vision, "floaters"): 45-55% , - Bladder/prostate problems, frequent urination: 20-95%- Recurrent illness and infections: 70-85% (that often will include bladder infections)- Paresthesias (numbness, tingling or other odd sensations in face and/or extremities): 25-60% (this can often include burning) (the above and a heap of other CFIDS symptoms which you may find you have are at http://wwcoco.com/cfids/bernesx.html ) I know dry eyes and skin problems can be CFIDS symptoms too. If you have CFIDS you are likely to find yourself getting more and more symptoms with time or the symptoms changing, what you get now, you possibly may stop getting, only to get other symptoms instead. Its a weird illness. A common easy way many in the CFIDS and FM communities would distingish these two things (Ive had both CFIDS along with FM and now only have CFIDS for 10 yrs now) is to ask yourself.. Do you feel better after exercise or worst? What happens to you after exercise. People with just FM usually feel better some with regular exercise where as CFIDS people will feel worst as exercise causes their symptoms to usually flare as exertion sets them back. Post exertional fatigue coming in after exercise and flaring after exertion, I'd say would be a fairly sure sign of CFIDS developing rather than just FM.

Thanks a lot!!! and keep it up! :-)try magnesium..lots of magnesium..when muscles work they produce lactic acid which causes the muscle burn when excercising..when you have FM your muscles are tight and "working" all of the time..and there is a big lactic acid build up..which =burning muscles...the body uses magnesium to clear out the lactic acid..a twenty minute bath with epsom salts..(magnesium chloride) also helps..this is I was all told by my medical doctor who specialises in fibro
