Arm Numbness

I'm a 40 year old male and about two weeks ago I had severe chest (heart side) and left arm (under bicep) pain that lasted for 5 straight days. Went to doctors and they did EKG and stress testing and concluded that it was not heart related. At least they believed that and I want to believe that as well. I run on average 20 miles a week with no issues and I'm back to doing that now. BTW, blood pressure 102-72 and pulse rate 60 normally and they never strayed away from those numbers through the events.

The problem is after the 5 days of arm and chest pains I lost the strength in my left hand/arm and the numbness (constant) in my forearm is not gone. I can no longer tie my shoes, turn a soda cap, press a simple doorbell, etc. At the gym, I have a 45lb dumbbell in my right hand and a 5lb. (max) in my right hand.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, John

  • It sounds to me like you need to have an MRI of the arm to rule out clots or blockages. Are there any other circulatory symptoms like a change in color to the extremity? You may have reduced blood flow which could be dangerous if the clot were to break free and travel to your heart or lungs. It is always best to insist on more tests once your symptoms do not subside. It has been quite a while since your post. Are you still experiencing the same thing?
