For about as long as I can remember, I have had a problem with lying on my stomach, or in any position in which my stomach faces the floor (swimming, crawling, etc.). No matter how long I'm holding the position -- even for five seconds to look underneath my bed for something -- I get up and am immediately met with a painful headache. The severity and length of the headache depend on how long I hold the position: The five seconds usually causes a minute-long, semi-painful headache, whereas half an hour of swimming causes a migraine-esque headache that lasts for about an hour; anything that lasts longer than that requires medicine or I feel it until the next day.
I have been to a chiropractor before, and apparently, five of the seven vertebrae in my neck are stuck stiff in a straight line with the remaining two sticking off at an angle at the top of the five. When I lie in those positions, those two vertebrae at the top are pushed into a point on the back of my neck that causes some kind of pressure (probably nervous, I don't really recall) that causes a headache. (I'm not sure it's related, but I should mention that the chiropractor diagnosed me with spondylolisthesis, more than likely inherited as my father has back problems and I'm no athlete.)
However, I don't get to see my chiropractor often at all (monetary issues, and our insurance isn't so great), and since most of the treatments require me to lie on my stomach, causing me to leave the office with an exceptionally bad headache, we tried an alternate method that didn't work out as well as we hoped.
What I'm looking for is a proper, hopefully permanent treatment for this problem, as it is an annoying issue (I like to swim and I'm often getting on my hands and knees to search for things I lose) and I have a long enough list of things that cause me headaches/migraines that I don't need such a common motor issue to add to it. If anyone has any ideas about what I should consider, I'd greatly appreciate it.
