I have been having most of the same symptoms as everyone else here for the past 2 weeks. Woke up one morning, and my right hand was swollen and extremely painful. Thought I was having a bout of arthritis, but the next day it was so painful I went to my walk-in clinic for something to relieve the pain. They took x-rays & tested me for Rhuemetoid Arthritis, Lymes Disease & something else I don't remember....all negative. Prescribed me anti-inflammatory & darvocet for pain. Stayed home for 2 days, & swelling and pain started to subside. Four days later, it was in my left hand & wrist. Pain was so bad I wanted to chop it off! I was getting spasms in it every 10 seconds. Also started vomiting, & assumed it was from the anti-inflammatory I was taking. Dr. said to stop it & just take Advil. Felt better in a couple of days & went back to work. Two days after that, I came home from work & couldn't even eat my dinner because my left side of face & jaw was stiff & hurting a lot. I was on the computer looking up all these symptoms & couldn't come up with anything that "fit" what I was experiencing. Jaw pain went away next day. I was feeling good so I cleaned my house. Later that day, my left arm started hurting. By nighttime, I couldn't even lift my arm, the pain was so bad, up to my shoulder & shoulder was swollen. Didn't sleep at all that night. Next morning, I was getting such horrible spasms in my shoulder I knew I had to do something. Once my family saw how much pain I was in & being that it was my left arm & that my left jaw was hurting two days ago, they thought I might be having a heart attack & called an ambulance!! I kept insisting it wasn't my heart....didn't feel like that. But off I was to the emergency room! Was there all day taking blood tests & x-rays. They gave me Percosets for the pain & that helped. They sent me home with Celebrex, & told me to follow up with the Rheumotologist that saw me in the hospital. It's been a week now & still have not gotten an appointment. Arm pain finally went away & I went back to work 2 days later...that was Thursday. Was doing fine, until I cleaned my house again yesterday. Now my upper left side of my back & neck are hurting. Not as bad as the other times, but bad. Laying down is the worst. Now I know something is going on. All blood tests & X-rays from the hospital were negative. My sister mentioned to me today that she knows of two people with similar symptoms who ended up having Adult Fifths Disease. Well, I went to computer, and sure enough found a lot of info. on this & this website. I am starting to believe that this is what I have. I haven't been in contact with anyone who has had this, as far as I know, so don't know how I would have picked it up. I'm actually hoping that this is not what I have, because it seems to be with everyone for a long time and I don't know how much more of the pain I can take. But I am definately going to contact the Rheumetologist doctor that I saw in hospital tomorrow & ask if I was tested for Fifths. This really sounds like what I have....nobody else seems to have an answer for me. My diagnosis upon leaving the ER was "migratory arthritis"!!! Whether this is what I have or not, I hope everyone gets rid of this disease soon.

  • That sounds a lot like fifth disease. I have had my initial in 2004 and it comes back randomly- worse in colder weather. It also could be rhumatic fever if your joints are pink. Ask for a steroid shot and that will help with opiate use. You will still need the opiates, just not as much when they give you a steroid shot. Do not be afraid to ask for painkillers- this can last about two months. Just rest and ride it out until you feel better. It is very scary to go through all this and not know what is going on.
