Hi. I have one taste bud that looks like it was literally pulled out, partially .. and it's a little sore if I eat something that rubs against it. I have been to a nurse who said it's probably related to an internal virus, or a burn. She said to rinse my mouth with warm salt water a few times a day. I tried that, no results except for a really dry throat. I don't know how to get rid of this! I'm not even sick! Please help!!!

Try looking at the burned tongue thread if it does. The taste bud thing was just one of the symptoms that I have. My tongue is white, feels burned and I feel slime on my teeth. I attritubute it to taking an antibiotic. Mine isn't any better. Hope you get some relief.

My tongue is white, feels burned and I feel slime on my teeth. I attritubute it to taking an antibiotic. Mine isn't any better. Hope you get some relief. I had the same white coated, burning tongue with inflamed looking taste buds sticking up that were painful. My teeth even hurt at first. Guess what? I was diagnosed with Thrush and the Dr blamed antibiotics even though I tried to explain my tongue was coated before I took any. I tried 3 different very strong anti-fungal meds and didn't even make a dent. After literally hundreds of hours of reading I finally decided I had a bacterial infection and went to the Dr and asked for Erythromycin. Dr did not want me to take it because she said it would make my yeast infection worse (in my mind I am thinking, what yeast infection). Anyway, I asked for a throat culture. Tested positive for Strep even though I tested negative for strep the first time because the first time they did the "quick test" specifically for strep. My strain doesn't show on those. This time I went to a hospital lab and they did a culture that they cultivated over days to identify ANY harmful bacteria. I have gram-positive streptococcus constellatus. Better known as s. milleri. I am on my second day of antibiotics and I can't remember the last time my tongue looked this good. I think the coating is almost gone. Imagine, weeks of Thrush treatments only seemed to make it worse. Doctors can make mistakes. I went to several doctors and was told I probably had things like mono, lyme disease, thyroid problems, all kinds of stuff (still possible I have those too). After a lot of reading on this strain I realize it can cause digestive problems, urinary problems, central nervous systems problems, respitory infections and on and on. If your doctors can't pinpoint your issue, I HIGHLY recommend having a non-specific bacterial culture done where they cultivate it and separate the strains to identify them after growth over days. Best of luck to all. I have been suffering for weeks and I read some of you for years. Well this bacteria can live in you for years and go undiagnosed. There are studies done on how common it is for some strep strains to go undiagnosed, especially because some close relatives to the bad ones are considered normal in the floura of our body. Best of luck to all.
