just wanted to share my story of an operation i had on my mouth last year.
After many visits to my doctor to see about my very loud snoring,i eventually got him to refer me to see a specialist at my local hospital.
I was very insistant that i wanted a palataplasty, a procedure where they laser the roof of your mouth to stiffen the palate and stop the vibrating thus stopping the snoring.
After manty other options trhat we tried with no success, i was given a palataplasty, they also removed my tonsils and my uvulva?.
What they didn't explain to me was the excrutiating pain you suffer after this operation even sipping water is unbearable,i was on morphine for many days and in and out of conciousnes.
eventually on being discharged i got on with my life and went for a post op check up 6 weeks later everything looked fine they said, but it wasn't!
it did not cure the snoring it was still as loud as ever!
and the scar tissue on the roof of my mouth has to be seen to be believed i have a gaping hole in the back of my throat and they havn't removed all of the uvulva? the bit they missed has adhered itself to the back of my throat!!.
I am now in the process of litigation against the hospital for such a slip shod job.
My advice if you are a snorer and are thinking of a palataplasty DO NOT have laser surgery go for the new less invasive radio frequency method of stiffening the palate but whatever method you choose i warn you the pain afterwards is very very severe and if i knew before hand(even if the op was a success) i would not have it done
hope this story helps with your choice
