lip burn and redness inside mouth area

The past month, off and on, I have had some lip problems. I thought they were just dry but lip moisturizers didn't help. I think perhaps they might be a bit swollen too. I thought I might have a cut on the corner of my mouth and that salty/spicy foods did this, but this morning all I had was a soy protein shake and now the insides of my lips are red and that's why they burn. Putting an ice cube on them seems to ease the burn somewhat. It just seems to be getting worse. Does anybody know what this is or if it's something to see a doctor about?
