This is what sets mine off so much. After four or five startlings in a short period of time, I lose control of my rationality, too pumped up on pump-up-brain-juice. Its the only ones i cant control at all, because it happens subconsciously. I am not asking for help though, I just wanted to share, well, a rather amazing thing I found. A research paper detailing the following:
"Repeated elicitation of the acoustic startle reflex leads to sensitisation in subsequent avoidance behaviour and induces fear conditioning"
Or, "Loud Thigns Make you Panic". I found this entire thing a wonderous relief for what was my worst area. Ill post a part of it here, but everyone who has this, I reccomend you read the full abstract at: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2202/12/30
So yeah, heres a quick taste of things to come: "The biological function of the startle reflex is most likely associated with mediating rapid flight responses. The data indicate that repeated startling by anthropogenic noise sources might have severe effects on long-term behaviour." I hope it helps someone else. it helped me a lot!
