  • Meds is not the answer if given by "inconsiderate, one size fit all doctors". Meds if given to suit the individual's needs will eventually help the patient. My son was given meds (based on what is given to the average person). . . these meds kept him asleep for 20 hours each day.I fought like a dog to have his meds adjusted so he could at least be awake to enjoy some of his life.To date, he is doing better but on only a 1/4 of some of the meds he was given. Most of those he no longer use were causing more adverse effects than the mental problems he had in the first place. For me it was a horrific experience, e.g. sometimes he would be walking and chatting then his knees would give away. That is, he literally fell asleep while standing. Needless, to say it was tough on my back and catching him etc. Now, almost 3 years later as a result of fighting for his well being, I had to take 3 months home this year as the wear and tear of dealing with "inconsiderate, one size fit all doctors" etc. left me physically and mentally exhausted. .However, this vicious cycle goes on as my son cannot function without medication as his brain never turns off. Firmly, I state my son deserves to have a quality of life not sedated until he dies.I love him and will continue to fight for him as if he is the President of the United States.
