Discussions By Condition: Mental conditions

I'm sure I have BPD. I have an appointment Thursday to get checked. Anyone here with experience?

I know that I have PTSD, and a had a really severe anxiety disorder and constant panic attacks/agoraphobia at one point.
Then I found my best friend and began to study mental health.
So I was reading through a quick list of personality disorders about a week ago and I was thinking to myself, that I show quite a few symptoms for histrionic, avoidant, narcissistic etc but not too horribly many.
Then I came to Borderline Personality Disorder, and I noticed that I have had every single symptom on the list constantly, ALL THE TIME. I'm going to a psychologist specifically to be checked for it Thursday. What can I expect? I never used my insurance/got diagnosed with my first psychologist.

I'm also wondering what the therapy will be like?

And if you have sexual issues related to BPD (destructive behavior, promiscuity, cheating) [I'm married] - Does the guilt ever get better. I'm trying so hard to improve.

  • Hello. Number one: Stop playing doctor, and stop trying to diagnose yourself. You cannot do it. Number two: Stop looking for a psychologist; you need the services of a Psychiatrist, and perhaps a a Medical Social Worker, for continued Psychotherapy. PTSD is a common problem, and can give a person a number of inter-related symptoms. THE IMPORTANT THING, is to STOP using medical books, and terminologies, and get a proper diagnosis and proper treatment. This will most likely be: (1) Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, (2) Gestalt therapy, (3) Physical Therapy (4) Medication management. In the meantime: Maintain a good diet, with little sugar, high - protein, slow-release carbs, fresh vegetables, and a good multi-vitamin-mineral, and a good B-12 supplement. Take the time to RELAX. Stay away from alcohol. That will only make things worse.

  • Hi. I wanted to say I too am textbook BPD but have never been formally diagnosed as such, only depression and given antidepressant, which didn't help at all. I think the Drs I have seen recognize BPD but aren't willing to take on such a difficult patient, so they send me on my way with Rx. I have always felt it was more than depression and thru "playing dr" have come to see it is. Education is much better than ignorance or blind trust.
