Okay so here is the deal, and PLEASE don't be awful to me... So I weigh quite a lot for my age, enough for people to make fun of my weight. Lately things have been building up and getting out of control. I started heavily restricting to about 1-2 cups of orange juice, an apple and perhaps a yogurt. On the weekend if I ended up making myself vomit. The last time I had made myself vomit was when I was 11, but I stopped because my sister asked me about it. So anyways I've now been making myself vomit about once - twice a week or two weeks. Is this an eating disorder?

  • ive suffered and been diagnosed with various eating disorders over the past 3 years. During me going through treatment you learn to recognise what is a problem and what isnt. whether this is a big problem for you yet or not, it is not normal behaviour and mind state to feel the need to restrict so much or to throw food back up. it sounds like it is very early on and i will tell you now, things can get out of control very quickly and easily. it changes you as a person, starts to interfere with your life more than you could ever imagine. you lose your personality, all your social skills and lose motivation, which in turn opens up doorways to mental illness (if youre not already suffering) do not think this is fun, or a game, or a way to lose weight (if thats your motive) because it will no longer be about losing weight, it will be a coping mechanism and an escape from reality. MY advice to you is to tell people youve acknowledged that you are developing abnormal behaviours towards food. if you cant, try analyse all the thoughts you have around your behaviours and what emotions certain things make you feel. train yourself to think rationally and find healthier alternatives for a better mindset. look after yourself.

  • Yes, this is an eating disorder. I would go see a doctor. Best of luck to you, and your health!
