depression and eye tension?

Hi. I was diagnosed with SAD or winter depression. I was wondering if anybody here has heard of such symptoms related to depression: Every fall/winter my eyes becomes very strained, intense and kind of bugged out (like eye-lid retraction) causing me to withdraw a little socially. The Dr.s have told me this is merely a psychosomatic result of the depression but I've always wondered if that's right or if I should be looking for other causes (I've had a negative for thyroid problems).
Actually I have found no relief for whatever it is....depression, eyes, etc..
I've taken about 6 or 7 different anti-depression meds as well as light therapy without any success.
I know depression is described as being very individual but is there anybody out there who has experienced similar symptoms and been diagnosed with depression? I was just wondering because so far it I've not met anyone nor have the Dr.s heard of other such cases.
Would appreciate any feedback. :)
