Binge Eating Disorder

My psychiatrist believes I may have Binge Eating Disorder but he didn't seem to know much about it or give me a definite diagnosis. I am seeing my FP doc on the 26th and would like to talk to her about it and get a referral to a dietician that specializes in eating disorders. What are important questions for me to ask/what is important information to give to ensure that I am getting the best and most proper treatment out there? Anything else I should be doing to start the healing process?

  • Be completely open with your therapist and your dietitian. This isn't the occasion to hide any of your feelings or "slip-ups." This is a valid mental illness, and by allowing yourself to open up and be free with your emotions, you're digging deep at the CORE emotional issues (not just the top layer of over-eating). The more honest you are, the more you'll get out of this, and just ask a lot of questions if you don't understand or think you can do something the professionals have planned for you. There are some interesting facts on all eating disorders at something-fishy.net if you want to check that out. :) Good luck!
