White spots on skin.

I work outside everyday, and am getting quite the tan. I have always had great skin, but in the last week patches of lighter skin have started to appear on my upper arm (near my shoulder). They neither hurt nor itch, but more are appearing and I know I have never had them in previous years. Anyone know anything? Thank you for any help.

  • I have white spots alos and they are more noticeable when I tan ( of course). My dermatologist told me that it was a kind of keratin overgrowth. Keratin is a protein in the skin, nails and hair. When you think of how strong your nails are it is because of keratin. If these spots are maybe dry or raised, or just generally seem to fall along a different plane than the rest of your skin then it may be this. It's nothing serious. He told me to use a dandruff shampoo on my arms. I also found that LIGHT uv tanning in small intervals helps. Cetaphil lotion is a great lotion that may help or even cocoa butter.
