I'M currently 22, as a kid i was quite sick with various conditions the main one was my appendix bursting, ever since i had them out (age 7) i had rumbles and constant pain everyday.
for years docs were saying it was all in my head because they couldnt find anything wrong and since i had the pain for ages they said i got used to it and still thought it was there when it wasnt *AKA im crazy*
after a lot of stays in the hospital the pain clinic finally decided they would take me under there wing and try lots of medication.....nothing worked, only made me a zombie taking 23,000mg of tablets everyday. (age 15)
when all else failed they decided to give me an epidural (age 19), hoping that if it was nerves miss firing that after a week on the epidural it should sort itself out.
unfortunately i developed an epidural infection in my spine causing nerve damage in my lower back and legs.
for 3 years ive struggled with learning to walk without walking aids but i still have pain everyday, worse then when i first went into hospital.
i hardly sleep, i feel physically drained, nothing seems to work anymore!
its been such a long time since ive had a good day health wise that i cant even remember when that was.
im hoping there is someone in a similar situation to mine, apparently epidural infections are real common just not in new zealand and we dont have stem cell replacement procedures here.
ive got no more options, i need some answers, so i can enjoy the rest of my life, hopefully without pain

  • Please describe your pain better. Both before and after the epidural. Is there anything that makes it better?

  • pain for me is hard to describe but im gonna do my best......before i had my appendix out i had the rumbles which is just a rush of constant pain all over my tummy, apparently i didnt have the right things wrong for them to pin point what was actually happening thats why it was left till it burst.after the operation i still had the rumbles so after the epidural came out i got sent home and for 4 days it was high temp, fever, couldnt stand for very long without going dizzy, no appitite (all linked to the infection) also a thumping migraine which is a common side effect of an epidural.i finally went back to hospital where i had a few lumbar punctures and since the lumber's ive felt that same sensation in my spine (the pressure on the spine just waiting for the crack to happen, but it doesnt)also i could no walk it was like i had to constantly move my leg otherwise the pressure would build up so badly that i couldnt handle it and walking would make my legs just give way, like i had no energy to remember how to walk, im supposed to be in a wheelchair but lots of hard work and determination has me walking. so yay a huge leap there :)my lower back on both sides almost under my kidneys i guess kind of feels like its getting squeezed and pushed and pulled all at the same time from under the skin, normally holding or applying pressure would work but not anymore, the only thing that does really help is IV medication but even then its only a temp solution and i try to stay away from medication as it hasnt cured the pain only made me too weak to worry about it, i understand there is no cure and lots of people have it way worse but it would be nice if one day even if it was just for one day being pain free.
