Hi my name is Sandy, I am 38 years old and was born with Vitamin D Resistant Rickets, diagnosed at 5 years old.
I have two children, Steph 14 and Cayleb 6. Steph has the condition also, though I did not pass it on to Cayleb.
Steph has had 12 surgeries just this year with many more to come, and I am due for surgery in a few weeks.
The older I am getting the less mobile I am becoming and the arthritis that is setting in.
I would love to find people with this condition to chat too just to see what they have experienced and whether they have children with the same condition.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Sandy :)

  • Hi Steph my name is Emily and i'm 26. I was diagnosed with vitamin d resistant rickets when I was 7 after my mother tirelessly visited different hospitals to get a diagnosis. I too have a child, Bethany, who is now three. She did receive treatment for rickets when she was young but the treatments have recently stopped as her phosphate levels have stabalized. I have had 3 surgeries in total on my leg which was badly bowed when i was younger and i recently had the same corrective procedure as carrying my daughter when i was pregnant cause severe bowing. I can definatley sympathize with the pains and stiffness that you are suffering from at the moment (I feel about 60 some days) and i am also suffering from other symptoms and would be interested to learn if these are things you are also suffering from. I was this week diagnosed with IBS which has been bothering me for some time now, I also seem to been hit with a sudden case of depression. The depression is interesting (well not really but i'm trying to find reasons for it) as other forums i have read have stated that a lack of vit D can cause depression and confussion!!. I would love to talk to you more as i do not know anyone else with this conditon pls feel free to e-mail me. (killerkizzy2@hotmail.co.uk). Good luck with the surgeries.Emily
